Pioneer of Western States Succumbs After Brief Illness
Edward John Corlett, Sr., 84, a retired farmer of Boise valley, died Tuesday at a Boise hospital after an illness of several days.
Mr. Corlett was the father of John Corlett, political editor of The Statesman.
He was born Aug. 6, 1868, at Owosso, Mich., and came west to [La Plata, San Juan County], New Mexico when he was 17 years of age to visit an [aunt &] uncle [Mary Ella Wiley & Quintus H. Hornbogen] and continued to live in the west.
Mr. Corlett was engaged in mining and oil operations in Colorado, Idaho, Nevada and Wyoming from 1889 until 30 years ago [1922], when the family moved to Boise from Midwest, Wyoming.
Mr. Corlett purchased a farm eight miles west of Boise in 1922. He sold the farm in 1944 and retired, maintaining his home in Boise.
Surviving are two sons, John Corlett of Boise and Fred Corlett of Cutbank, Mont.; a half-sister, Mrs. Henry [Albert] Schultz of Owosso, Mich., and two grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at Summers chapel Friday at 10:30 a. m. The Very Rev. Marcus Hitchcock will officiate and interment will be at Meridian.
