Carl Christian was born on the family farm, Hille #32, located a few miles southeast of the village of Hille. In 1834 he married Wilhelmina Frederika Wilhelmi in Hille. As his older brother inherited the rights to the farm, Carl and his wife made their home elsewhere. It appears that the family lived at Hille #5 and Hille #267. The couple had four children, Louise, born in 1834, Sophie, born in 1838, August, born in 1840, and Arnold, born in 1842. Both of the daughters died at young ages. In 1870, Carl was enumerated with his son Christian in Blooming Grove, Dane County, Wisconsin.
