Mr. E. Owen Scott, age 76, of Fernandina Beach passed away on Saturday morning, August 22, 2009 at Baptist Medical Center - Jacksonville after heart surgery.

Born in Chester, FL, he was the son of the late Ernest Vincent and Corrine Anderson Scott. A lifelong resident of Nassau County, Mr. Scott had attended Yulee High School. He was in employed in the logging and timber business for over sixty years, and was the founder and owner of E.O. Scott Timber Company. Mr. Scott was an avid Florida Gator fan and often could be seen wearing his Gator jacket.

Since 1983, Owen had been a member of Blackrock Baptist Church, where he and his wife could be found just about every time the church doors were opened for service. Before their health started to decline, they both sang for many years in the choir. He had read the KJV Bible from cover to cover 39 times. Owen and his wife had dinner regularly at the Mariner Restaurant on Centre Street on Amelia Island.

Mr.Scott was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Scott, who passed away in November of 1993. Her death was heart-breaking for both Owen and his wife.

Mr. Scott leaves behind, his wife of 52 years, the former, Lois Mott of Fernandina Beach, their son, Buck Scott (Jennifer), Fernandina Beach, three brothers, George Scott, Yulee, FL, Lindy Scott, O'Neil, FL, Randy Scott, O'Neil, FL, three sisters, Lindell Lee, Yulee, FL, Joan (Pete)Jones, Fernandina Beach, FL, Nancy Tranthum, Fernandina Beach, FL, five grandchildren, Ashley Scott (Dustin), Jason Scott, Cord Lovitt, Jesse Lovitt, Jenna Lovitt, a great-grandson, Bryce Adams and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were at 11:00 am Wednesday August 26th at Blackrock Baptist Church with Reverend Michael Bowen and Reverend Pete Jones, officiating. Rev Pete Jones sang "How Great Thou Art" and Rev. Matt Gingery sang "Amazing Grace".

Mr. Scott will be laid to rest beside his daughter in Chester Cemetery.

Guests and friends were for visitation at Oxley Heard Funeral Home on Amelia Island from 5 pm to 7 pm August 25th.
