Marie Perkinson Sneed
Marie Perkinson Sneed, 98, of Decatur, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 11, 2004, at Brookewood Nursing Center. She was born on July 26, 1905, and was a resident of Meigs County, where she owned and operated Sneed's Grocery Store on Highway 58 South for many years. She was the oldest member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and was very active until her illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Roy Robert Sneed; her parents, John Lee and Modine Rockholt Perkinson; three brothers, Oscar, Lester and Roy Lee Perkinson; and one sister, Della Boyd Perkinson.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Roy Lee and Eunice Sneed of Miami, Fla.; one brother, John D. Perkinson of Decatur; two granddaughters and one spouse, Donna Sneed and Ben Wade of Decatur, and Suzanne Sneed of Athens; one grandson and spouse, Bobby and Melinda Sneed of Decatur; six great-grandchildren, Richie Wade and wife, Terry, Barry, Bradley and Coty, all of Decatur, and Taylor and Ansley, with another great-grandchild due in September; and several nieces, nephews and a host of cousins and special friends.
Funeral services will be 5 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church on No Pone Valley Road South in Decatur with the Rev. Dr. Tom Blackshear officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ben Wade, Richie Wade, Barry Wade, Wayne Perkinson, Willard Plank and Lester Denton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bobby Sneed, J.L. Perkinson, Dean Perkinson and Jimmy Ledford.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
