BENJAMIN FRANKLIN DORA, son of MR. and MRS. JOHN DORA, was born Dec. 12, 1829, in Bracken County, Ky. Departed this life May 11, 1907, aged 77 years, 4 months and 29 days. Was married to CATHARINE MILLER, Oct. 7, 1852. Of this union there were five children born; JOHN F., who died in infancy; ALVIN T., of Carthage, Mo.; MRS. MARY MCCOLLOUGH, of Lucas County; MRS. LOU MCCOLLOUGH, of Lakin, Kas.; LILLIE F. ROBERTS, of Milan, Mo., and E.L., of Lucas County. All of the children were present at the funeral.
Two years after their marriage, in 1854, they moved to Lee County, Iowa.
One year later, in 1855, they settled in Lucas County, on a farm in Warren Township, which has ever since been their home. B.F. DORA enlisted in the 34th Reg., Iowa Volunteers, in August, 1862, and served until the close of the war in 1865, when he was honorably discharged. He was a loving father and husband, a kind and generous neighbor, a loyal and faithful soldier, and a true and righteous citizen. He was a member of the Chariton G.A.R. Post.
Largely attended funeral services were conducted at the home at 2 o'clock, Monday afternoon, by Rev. F.B. Palmer of the Chariton Baptist Church, and the remains interred in the Chariton Cemetery, the Grand Army Post having charge of the services at the grave.

The march of another comrade is over. How swiftly does one such announcement follow another and each brings added sorrow as we reflect how soon will be heard the sad announcement that the last survivor of that mightiest struggle for human liberty the world ever saw, has been called away to the silent camping grounds beyond the struggles and conflicts of earth. On August 9, 1862, he enlisted in Company E, 34th Iowa Infantry in Capt. N.B. Gardner's Company of which he was appointed a corporal for three years, the period of his enlistment, he gave the full measure of patriotic devotion to his country's cause, and was mustered out as 2nd Lieut. of Company A, said regiment. His integrity as a man, his genial social qualities ever the same made him a favorite with all who knew him.
Fifty-five years of happy married life attest his faithfulness as a husband and honorable and loving set of children prove his fidelity as a father.
Comrade Dora became a member of Iseminger Post on the 18th day of December, 1885 and he has ever been true to his obligations as such. We shall miss him in the post meetings, at the campfire, in our annual reunions, but we will never forget to honor his memory for his virtues as a worthy citizen and patriot soldier of our republic. Resolved that this memorial be spread upon our minutes and that a copy be furnished his widow, Catharine Dora.
