Lavaun M. Skinner-Thompson, 73, of Fremont, formerly of Scribner, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

She was born July 20, 1936, in Scribner to William "Bill" and Caroline (Sindelar) Osterloh.

She was raised in Scribner and attended various country schools in the area, graduating from Scribner High School in May 1954. After high school, she taught one year of rural school in Dodge County.

She married Harlan J. Skinner on May 22, 1955. The couple lived in Lincoln while Harlan finished school at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

The couple returned to the Ridgeley Township until Harlan was drafted into the military. They moved to Kileen, Texas, and then to various places in Europe, returning to the Scribner area in 1958.

During the following years, she belonged to the Mrs. Jaycees, Jr. Women's Club, Ridgeley Extension Club and several card clubs.

Harlan died in February 1977.

She then moved to Aurora, Colo., and married Jim Thompson. They later divorced.

She lived in several different communities. While in Colorado, she was involved as a Cub Scout Den Mother, PTA, Newcomer's Club and Welcome Wagon. During this time in Colorado, she was a member of the Leather & Lace Square Dance Club.

She moved back to Nebraska in November 2005. She became ill in 2007 and battled cancer since then.

Survivors include: a son, Dana Skinner of Fremont; a sister, Betty (and husband, John) Tharp of Fremont; a brother, Kay Osterloh of Hooper; brother-in-law, Rod (and wife, Kathy) Skinner of Fremont; and mother-in-law, Morine Skinner of Fremont.

The memorial service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. John Ridgeley Lutheran Church south of Scribner. The Rev. Dr. Nicki McIntyre will officiate.

A book signing with the family present will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont.

Burial will be at a later date in Hooper Cemetery.
