Hans Haver was born at Telemarken, Norway, July 28, 1822. With his parents, he emigrated to America when twenty years of age, settling in Rock County, Wisconsin, in 1842. The family removed to La Salle county, Illinois, in 1844.
Here, in 1849, Mr. Hayer was married to Miss Sarah Elefson. To this union were born eight daughters and one son, four daughters preceding the father to the better land.
In 1885 Mr. Hayer and family moved to Sheridan Illinois, giving up farm life. They remained there until 1894 when they came to Lamoni, where they have since resided.
Deceased leaves a loving companion, one son, and four daughters: Lorenzo, Ella, Mrs. M. J. Danielson, and Mrs. Henry Sumption, Lamoni, and Mrs. William Hougas, Akron, one sister, Mrs. Annie Elefson, of Sheridan, Ill., twelve grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
Mr. Hayer was always religiously inclined. In early life he was a member of the Lutheran church, later joining the Free Will Baptists. In 1861 he united with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, remaining a true and faithful member until death.
Mr. Hayer's sincerity and integrity of purpose can best be appreciated in connection with the words of a lifetime friend: "I have known Hans Hayer as long as I have known anybody, and I have the first time to ever hear a word spoken against him."
The funeral services were held at the Saint's chapel Thursday, at 10:45, in charge of Elder John Smith, President Joseph Smith preaching the sermon. The remains were borne by six nephews representing five families. A large concourse of mourning relatives, old acquaintances, and friends were in attendance, following the remains to the last resting place, Rosehill cemetery, there to await the resurrection morn.
