Generation No. 2

Peter Heinrich Jantz was born 18 Aug 1810, Antanofka, Volhynia Poland-Russia and died 11 Jan 1895 in
Kansas.* He was the son of Heinrich Cornelius Jantz and Katharina (Catharina) Voth. He was
married to Katherine Unruh, daughter of Peter Unruh sadly the name of her mother is unknown. Katharine was born ca 1809 in Antanofka, Volhynia Poland-Russia, she died in Kansas.

Some researchers,in an age before availability of ships lists or the internet, mistakenly believe that she died in Russia in ca 1859 or thereabouts that is not true. She is listed on the ships list with her husband and several of her
children. She would have been ca 55 years old, when her
last known child, Susanna was born. There is nothing
unusual about that, the only thing unusual, is a mother
surviving in the harshest of conditions and giving birth to so many children. Sturdy peasant German Stock, I say.

Peter is mentioned in the book, Brother's In Deed To Brother's In Need. He in his latter days, was living in the Poor house, and given the label 'Insane'.Pg.....

It is probable that either his wife, Katherina died before him, as no certain date, to my knowledge, has been found for her or that wife, Katherina and grown children living nearby could not take care of him at home. My theory is that, while back in Russia, if he were a widower, he would not have married a woman of an age close to his, he would have married a much younger woman, who could bear him children, take care of him if need be, and his home in general, and her name would most likely be "Lena" rather than Katherina.
An example: Adam Nightengale, after his wife died, married Helena Schultz, age 17. He had sons and daughters, older than his new wife. I know this story as Helena was my Grandfather's sister. She was born in Russia
and came to America with her parents at the age of three.
Her marriage was an arranged one between Adam Nightengale and her father, she had no choice in the matter.
