A Poem In Memory of Tobias Peter Jantz

~~~~~~Waiting at Heaven's Door~~~~~~~~
Death beckoned him with outstretched hand
And whispered softly of an unknown land,
But he was not afraid to go
For though the path he did not know
He took death's hand without a fear
For God who safely brought him here
Had promised He would lead the way
Into eternity's bright day.
For none of us need go alone
Into the valley that is unknown,
But, guided by our Father's hand
We journey to the promised land
Tobias P. Jantz, was the grandson Heinrich Cornelius Jantz and Katharina P. Voth. He was the son of Peter Heinrich Jantz and Katherine Unruh. He was born 24 August 1843/44, in the village of Karlswalde, in Volhynia in the Ostrog region of Polish-Russia. He was baptized on 24 March 1864.
He died in January 1939.
His family was of German descent, who had long ago,lived in Prussia before emigrating to Russia. His parents along with their children, some married, some still single; immigrated to America on the ship Kenilworth, docking in Pennsylvania on 9 January 1875. Tobias married in 1871 to Helena 'Lena' Wedel. Known children are
1. Susanna "Susie" Jantz....b: 15 Feb 1874 in Poland
2. Friedrich Tobias Jantz...b: 3 Oct 1879 in Durham, KS
3. Anna Jantz...........b: 14 May 1883 in Halstead, KS
4. Reuben Tobias Jantz......b: 12 Aug 1885
Tobias and his wife settled in Kansas, where they are buried in North Mennonite Cemetery Montezuma, Gray County, Kansas. His parents are also buried in Kansas as are some of his siblings. Other siblings ventured forth to Oklahoma settling in and around the Meno, Major County area, some even in Woods County, Oklahoma.
Added to this memorial by Janet Milburn #47529757.
Tobias was my Great Uncle. He was brother to my Great-Grandfather, Benjamin P. Jantz (1847-1933), who is buried, next to his wife, Helena Koehn in Newhope Dale Cemetery, Meno, OK. Information for this bio also supplemented by census records, family history records, CD given to me by a Jantz cousin's husband, Bill Ikerd a wonderful genealogist and researcher, who is now deceased. I had the pleasure of meeting him at a Carl T. Jantz family reunion in Fairview
many years ago. I am transferring this memorial in hopes that others can learn more about their German from Russia history. I would appreciate the information that I have added, being left on this memorial. I have only been maintaining this memorial. When I received it, it had only the cemetery, birth and death year. It was transferred to me and originally created by: Grave Divers. I have done my best for the descendants of my Great Uncle Tobias and will be glad to help anyone learn more about their German from Russia ancestry, as I have been researching it for years, and have also been a member of the A.H.S.G.R. Society. Sincerely, Janet Milburn
