Everette was the 9th of 10 children of George Franklin Lyall and Mary Burgess. He married Myrtle Bell Dowell about 1922 in Ashe County, North Carolina. He and Myrtle had 8 children, including William Carl (1923-1980), Josephine, Myrtle Jean (1924-1992), Edith R., George Earl (1929-2005), Opal Faye, Thelma Marie, and Ruth Frances.
