Robina "Robin" Katherine Gillette
Age 93, died peacefully Friday, February 1, 2008, at the Chelsea Retirement Community, with her daughter and devoted friend, Jack Edington, at her side. She was born August 3, 1914 in Galveston, Texas, the daughter of Paul and Margaret Christian (Barkelew) Watson. Robin loved to travel, see new places, and meet new people. While her husband Charles was in the army, she lived in several states in the East, South, and Midwest, as well as Japan, Hawaii, and Panama. Besides being a wonderful loving mother and grandmother, she had several careers, including selling real estate, taking small groups on tours of England, and creating her own company to import custom made skirts and woolens from Scotland. She was an excellent cook and hostess, which led her to purchase the Pentagoet Inn in Castine, Maine, which she redecorated and ran for several years. Robin was an avid reader and bridge player. She loved parties and entertaining and always made people feel welcome with her beautiful smile. She loved animals, especially her beloved Jenny, who was with her until last year. She married Charles Odenweller in Galveston, Texas in 1935, and he preceded her in death. She married Edward C. Gillette in Arlington, Virginia in 1967 and he preceded her in death in 1986. Survivors include a daughter, Robin Meloche (Jack Edington) of Dexter; three sons, Charles(Anne) Odenweller of Paoli, PA, Robert (Jane) Odenweller of Bernardsville, NJ, and her beloved step-son, Michael (Felicity) Gillette of Great Falls, VA; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Peter Odenweller; 2 brothers, Edward and Paul Watson; and 3 sisters, Margaret Watson, Barbara McLorie, and Marianne Dodge. Her family wants to give special thanks to the wonderful staff at Towsley Village, where she lived for the last 4 years, and especially to all the caregivers who have worked in Hummingbird. They gave her so much love, special care, attention, and devotion, and she loved them in return. They will never be forgotten. A memorial service will be held Monday, February 18, 2:30 pm at Chelsea Retirement Community (Towsley Village Chapel). Burial will be at West Point Cemetery, West Point, New York.
