Sergeant Wichman was a member of the 15th Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy near Hoengsong, South Korea on February 13, 1951. Sergeant Wichman was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
I (Lucile) researched the 2nd infantry division and found this story about the conflict where he and many others died.

He was temporally buried in Koehng, Korea. Another article said he was buried in Tangok, Korea military Cemetery.
His remains were sent to Cheyenne Wyoming. The records the Mortuary had didn't have record of who picked up his remains, but since his father requested a headstone for him in Oct 1951, I assume his parents picked them up or they could have been delivered to them.
When Robert married my mother, I was 3 months from being 3 years old and Tommye Ruth was 1 1/2 years old. They had no children.

I found his memorial here on Findagrave.com which has been transferred to my care.
