Monday afternoon John F. Renner, who resides on the Hotchkiss farm six miles northwest of Burr Oak, was burning the weeds and grass off his potato patch. Before he set the fire he took the precaution to see that his children were in the house. In some manner his 2-year-old child came out of the house and ran into the fire. Mr. Renner rescued the child but it was burned so badly that it died Tuesday night. Mr. Renner was badly burned and is in bad shape.

Just after noon last Monday while John F. Renner was burning the trash on his potato patch his little child about two years of age got into the fire and in trying to save the child Mr. Renner’s clothing caught lire and he was so frightfully burned that it is not thought he can recover. Mrs. Renner’s hands were badly burned also. The child died that night.

Dan Renner and wife, parents of John F. Renner, arrived last Thursday noon from Portland, Indiana, in response to word that their son had been so horribly burned but when they reached his bedside he had lost consciousness and failed to recognize them. He passed away that evening and on the following day the body was laid away in the Oak Creek cemetery where the little child was buried only three days before. The funeral was preached by Rev. J. M. Steeley.
