He was born October 14, 1915 to Edward H. Kienitz and Mathilda Brieschke in Reed City and remained a resident of the area his entire life. He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and attended the Trinity Lutheran School graduating in 1930. After graduating from Reed City High School in 1934, he attended Western State Teachers College (now Western Michigan University) receiving a bachelor's degree in Art in 1940. Mr. Kienitz served his country in World War II from 1943-1945 in the campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe.
He returned to Reed City to continue on his family's business, the Reed City Granite and Marble Works and later Kienitz Memorials, a monument and stone cutting company founded by his father in 1905 where he acted as owner/operator until his retirement in 1988.
Mr. Kienitz was a dedicated and faithful member of his church where he served as an Elder, sang in the choir, and served on numerous boards and committees throughout the years. He always attended and enjoyed the children's programs and activities and was strongly supportive of the Trinity Lutheran School and its mission. Friends will remember Carl's firm handshake, his infectious laugh, his love of the outdoors, his loyalty as a citizen to his country and community, his dedication to his church, and the strong witness of his faith.
He is survived by his sister, Marion Kienitz of Reed City; many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mathilda; brothers, Elton, Frank, Hilbert, Hartwin, and Marold Kienitz; sisters, Clara West, Sela Armstrong, Wilma Taylor and Ruth Kienitz.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the staff of the Skilled Nursing Facility at Spectrum Health - Reed City Campus for their loving care of Carl these past few years and for their equally loving support of his sister, Marion.
