William "Bill" A. Shugar was born on Wednesday; March 3, 1920 in Ackley; Hardin County, Iowa, the son of John and Gertje (Rotgers) Shugar. He attended and graduated from the Ackley High School in 1939. He married Dorathy Rigbers on June 1, 1941 at her parent's home. They had three children. He enjoyed farming, driving milk truck, and clerking at the Ackley Sale Barn. He owned and operated Wm Shugar trucking from 1964 -2000. As a member of St. John's United Church of Christ he founded the Men's Chorus. He was a fifty year Mason in the Fountain Lodge #219. In 1989 he started The Music Makers, playing at nursing homes, parades, and special events until 2000. He also taught square dancing. William "Bill" A. Shugar, age 89, passed away on Saturday; September 12, 2009 at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo; Black Hawk County, Iowa following a fall. Those left to mourn his passing are: His wife, Dorathy; daughters, Marilyn (Harvey) Goracke of Philipsburg, KS and Carolyn (John) Ford of Humboldt; a son, Larry (Pamela) of Ackley; five grandchildren, Sharon (Dave) McRae of Cedar Falls, Jennifer (Dean) Eyler of Plymouth, MN, Amanda (Trent) Winters of Iowa Falls, Samantha (Josh) Carpenter of Iowa Falls, John Shugar of Ackley; ten great-grandchildren, Carson, Jenna, Cullen, Liam McRae; Luke and Lauren Eyler; Mikaylan, Kadynce and Kaleb Winters; and Jordyn Carpenter. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Helen Yount, Bernice Teeter, and Hazel Teske and several nieces and nephews. May they rest in peace. Visitation will be from: 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday; September 14, 2009 at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at: 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday; September 15, 2009 at the Saint John's United Church Of Christ in Ackley, Iowa. Interment will be in the Oak Wood Cemetery in Ackley, Iowa.
