Zickler, Henry Karl passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2009.

He was born in Dresden, Germany, April 3, 1919 and at age 6, came to St. Louis with his family.

A World War II combat soldier of the Rainbow Division of the U.S. Army, he became a POW.

Following the war, he was a floor layer for almost 40 years, worked on construction projects for St. Stephen, Hope and Epiphany Lutheran Churches. Later, he became a bailiff in the Federal Courts under Judge William Webster and John Nangle.

He was a distinguished member of the Bayern Verein, Past Commanders' Club and American Legion Posts 133 and 583.

Henry was a violin player in his youth and became an avid fan of the Metropolitan Opera and all classical music. He loved trees and planted hundreds of them.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (nee Villhard); his daughter Joyce (Carl) Schulz and his son, Karl (Anela) Zickler; he is also survived by his grand- children, Jeanne (Mike) McQueen, Joanna Helmkamp, Jamie (Dan) Scholz, Karl Thomas Zickler, Kati (Max) Foizey and Sarah Zickler; his great-grandchildren are Makayla and Seriah McQueen and Tyler and Nathan Scholz.

Services: Visitation at JOHN L. ZIEGENHEIN and SONS 7027 Gravois on Sunday from 3-7 p.m. and again on Monday at Epiphany Lutheran Church (Holly Hills at Leona) from 9 a.m. until the time of Service at 10 a.m. Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
