Gertrude Nolte, 94, of New Ulm died Thursday, September 10, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Franklin.

Funeral service will be 2 PM Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. Pastor Donald Sutton will officiate.

Visitation will be 4 - 7 PM Tuesday and 7:30 - 11:30 AM Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Wednesday.


Gertrude is survived by her husband, Waldemar Nolte, a resident of the Golden Living Center in Franklin; daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret "Marcy" and Dave Drescher of Alden, Ruth Geiman of Phoenix, Arizona, Annette Thorson of Courtland, Carol and Dave Strenge of Cambria, Doris and Tim Winkel Muskegon, Michigan; sons and daughters-in-law, William and Jane Nolte of Fairborn, Ohio, Jerome and Betty Nolte Oak Hill, Virginia, John and Cheryl Nolte of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; 27, grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and by one sister and one brother.

Gertrude Esther Vogel was born March 30, 1915 in Jefferson, Wisconsin to Leonard and Elizabeth (Robisch) Vogel. She was a graduate of both Dr. Marin Luther Academy and Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm. She then taught school in the Sleepy Eye Public Schools. Gertrude was united in marriage to Waldemar Nolte on June 25, 1937 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Jefferson, Wisconsin. After marriage they lived in Fon du Loc, Cudahy and Burlington, Wisconsin, Mobridge, South Dakota, Winona and then New Ulm. After moving to New Ulm Gertrude taught music at DMLC.

She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church OWLS and she also played the piano to accompany the Ladies Choir at church.
