--PULLMAN HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1971--

Peter Joel Harrington was born to Harriett Jean (Withey) and Al Harrington. Sixth born of seven children: Ann, Kate, John, Peggy (Margaret), David, Peter, Rowena.

From his parents:

As a lover of life, Peter was: computer analyst par excellence, photographer/artist, mountain climber, camper, hunter/fisherman, white water rafter, spelunker, golfer, rock climber, chef, lover of Basque lamb chops, gardener, modern Renaissance man, Western enthusiast, cat and dog lover (Star, Bill, Bear), lifelong learner, scenic road tripper, story teller and organ doner.

High school classmates will long remember the "Harrington's for Lunch Bunch", which drew many of Pete's friends weekdays at noon, just across Olsen Street from Pullman High, at the Harrington home.

Peter attended Fairhaven College @ Western Washington University (Bellingham WA), then Washington State University (Pullman WA).

After suffering from a stroke, Peter was transferred from Pullman Memorial Hospital to the level 2 trauma unit at St. Joseph's Medical Center (Lewiston ID) for more agressive treatment, and died September 17, 2002. A memorial service was held for Pete at Rico's in downtown Pullman (WA).

Loved by all, and he will be missed. His ashes have been scattered at his favorite place on Steens Mountain in SE Oregon (see photos).

Survived by his life-partner Nancy (Allen) Pietski; parents Al & Harriett; brothers and sisters Ann, Kate, John, Peggy, David, Rowena; nephews & nieces Alp, Alisa, Nathan, Joel, Jennifer, Kim, Lucas, Luanne, Michael, Sandy, Caitlin, Evan, Allena; and an abundance of friends and family.

A bench along the Pullman Riverwalk has been dedicated by Peter's family in his memory.

A 200 year old poem selected as descriptive of Peter...

Abou Ben Adhem

Abou Ben Adhem (may his tribe increase!)
Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace,
And saw within the moonlight in his room,
Making it rich like a lily in bloom,
An angel writing in a book of gold:
Exceeding peace had made Ben Adhem bold,
And the presence in the room he said,
"What writest thou?" The vision raised his head,
And, with a look made of all sweet accord,
Answered, "The names of those who loved the Lord."
"And is mine one?" said Abou. "Nay not so,"
Replied the angel. Abou spoke more low,
But cheerly still; and said, "I pray thee,
then,
Write me as one that loves his fellow-men."

The angel wrote, and vanished. The next night
It came again, with a great awakening light,
And showed the names whom love of God had blessed,--
And, lo! Ben Adhem's name led all the rest!
