Maria Anna Lee, beloved wife of Brian Lee and cherished mother of Steven Lee and Johnny LeBron-Cruz, died on Jan. 9, 2004 at home with her family in Yelm, Wash., after a long and courageous battle against cancer.
Marianne was born on Feb. 23, 1952, in Tiefengrugen, Germany, to Johann Wittig and Anna Wittig Groote.
She earned a nursing degree at Stadtische Kliniken in Fulda, Germany and married U.S. serviceman Brian Lee on Dec. 14, 1984, while he was stationed at Downs Barracks in Fulda.
Their time in Germany was followed by transfers to Fort Hood, Texas, Fort Knox, Ky., and finally to Fort Lewis, Wash.
Marianne worked as a registered nurse in Germany and in the nursing and health-care field in the United States. She was most recently employed by Mount Rainier Clinic in Yelm and the Providence Sound Home Care and Hospice of Olympia.
She is survived by Brian, her husband of 19 years; son Steven of Yelm and son Johnny Lebron-Cruz and his wife Heike of Rotlein, Germany and granddaughters Melissa and Sarah Lebron-Cruz.
Also surviving are brothers Karl Wittig, Neuenkirchen, Germany, and Fred Wittig, Playa Romantica, Mallorca; mother-in-law and father-in-law Susan and Jim Lee, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Cindy and Bob Carlson and Martha and Bob Scott of Butte; Teri and Chris Noble, Libby; Jill and Kelly Carr, Lynnwood, Wash.; Laurie Risley, Thornton, Colo.; Heather Rebel, Coeur d'Alene, and Kathy Lee, Missoula, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Marianne was preceded in death by her parents and brothers-in-law Steve Lee, Ralph Carr and Rick Salvhus, and an aunt and uncle, Emma and Willie Winterling.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Woodlawn Forest Mortuary, 5930 Mullen Road S.E., Lacey, Wash.
Graveside services will be held on Memorial Day weekend in Libby.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Restricted Fund which benefits Hospice patients and their families, Providence Sound Home Care and Hospice, Box 5008, Olympia, WA 98509 or a charity of the donors choice.
