Margaret Irene Plotz, 88, Orange City, formerly of Denison, Iowa, died Thursday, October 1, 2009, at Orange City Area Community Hospital in Orange City, Iowa.

Margaret Plotz, daughter of Howard and Greta (Green) Nurse, was born October 10, 1920, in Dunlap, Iowa. She was baptized in the United Methodist Church in Dunlap. She graduated in 1938 from Dunlap High School, where she enjoyed playing basketball.

She married Walter William Plotz on March 7, 1942, at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. She assisted the war effort while Walter was serving in World War II. She worked many years in the dental office of Dr. George Berry in Denison as a receptionist and bookkeeper until she was 78 years old, retiring in 1998. She moved into the Donna Reed House in Denison in 2000. She moved into Bee Hive Homes in Sheldon in 2002 to be closer to her family. She moved into Kuiper Villa of Prairie View Home in Sanborn, Iowa, in 2003, and she became a resident of Orange City Area Health System's Long Term Care Unit in 2006.

She was a confirmed member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, where she was active in Dorcas Society and Evening Guild Ladies Auxiliary. She also was involved in American Legion Auxiliary and Daughters of American Revolution. She enjoyed square dancing, bowling, camping with the Royal Rovers Travel Club, collecting dishes and antiques, and attending community plays, musicals and other fine arts events. She also enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends all over the United States.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy and Robert; three granddaughters: Joe'l and Derrick; Deborah and Craig; and Sarah and Jeremy; five great_grandchildren: Jaclyn and Jenna; and Wilson, Lauren and Easton; one sister, Doris and Melvin; one brother-in-law, Robert; one sister-in-law, Elaine; two nephews and three nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter Plotz; her sister, Betty Harrell; and her brother, Kenneth Nurse. Funeral services were held at 10 A.M., Monday, October 5, 2009 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kasier and Rev. David Sewing officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Larry Boeck singing "On Eagle's Wings" and for congregational hymns "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "How Great Thou Art". Those serving as honorary pallbearers were: Mark Christiansen, Dr. George Berry, Daryl Stansbury, Ron Henningsen and Joseph Griffin. Pallbearers were: Derrick Vander Waal, Leonard Bolton, Robert Holman, Jeremy Addink, Craig Noah and Larry Boeck.
