Cassidy LeeAnn Rose was the 13-year-old daughter of Fred and Cindy (Cartwright) Rose and was attending Coquille Valley Middle School at the time of her death. She was the younger sister of Brandy Rose and Jennifer Rose.
The day after Christmas, Cassidy Rose and a friend were run down on the sidewalk in front of Coquille High School by a 17-year-old classmate of Jennifer Rose. He had accelerated as he reached down to pick up cassette tape from the floor of his pickup truck. Cassidy Rose died on the way to the hospital. Her friend recovered from serious injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
Her family also maintains a homemade memorial in front of the high school at the place where Cassidy Rose suffered fatal injuries.
