With gratitude to the family of "Uncle Marty," I'm managing the memorials he created until one of his descendants would like to have them transferred back to his family.

Marty was my half-uncle, and his relationship to me is in parentheses as a wink to his memory. Marty was actually younger than my cousins and me, but that never kept him from stomping a foot and demanding that we call him "Uncle" from the time we were all small children.

You left much too soon -- rest peacefully, Uncle Marty.

Martin Leroy Noland was born in Carnegie, OK, October 11, 1945 and died at his home in Bethany on October 10, 2009.

He grew up in Carnegie, graduated H.S. and joined the Army in 1963. He served his country in Vietnam and Germany from 1963-1967. He then returned to the states and married in 1967. He earned a B.A. from Bethany Nazarene College in 1976. He was employed as a Director of Food Services for 27 years until he retired in 2003 to pursue his favorite job of being a Grandpa to his grandchildren. He was an active member and recruiter for the Voices of Crossings, an avid gun hobbyist, and a dogged genealogy researcher. His was a life of service to his family, his friends and his church - the things that brought him the greatest pleasure. He was a humble man who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife Deena, son Damon and wife Laura Kaye Noland, daughter Mandi and husband Paige Autry, and grandchildren Nate, Jesse Kate, Luke, and Chloe Noland, Olivia, Joshua, and Jillian Autry.

He was preceded in death by his father Jesse Noland, mother Iva Noland Hegner, and sister Pauline Mills.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, October 16, at Crossings Community Church, 14600 N. Portland, OKC.

Visitation will be at Smith & Kernke, 14624 N. May from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. October 15.

Interment will be at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Worship Ministry at Crossings Community Church.
