One of Milford's oldest residents, 93 year old John W. Burkey passed away Wednesday, February 11. He had made his home for several years at the Mrs. Anna Smith home.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the United Missionary Church with Rev. H. C. Meyer officiating. Burial was at Pleasant View Cemetery.

Out of town relatives who came to attend the services were Mr. and Mrs. Will Burkey of Broken Bow, Mrs. Forrest Perrine of Omaha and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Duling of Lincoln

Obituary

John W. Burkey, son of Christian and Mary Burkey was born on August 24, 1856 near Pekin, IL and passed from this life on February 11, 1948 at the age of 93 years 5 months and 18 days.

In 1880 he moved from Illinois and settled near Milford. On October 25, 1884 he was united in marriage to Fannie Kuhns. Some time later they moved to Colorado where Mr. Burkey worked on a ranch. From there they moved again to Illinois and in 1914 returned to Milford where they resided the remainder of their lives.

Mr. Burkey, 4 brothers and 5 sisters preceded him in death. Mrs. Burkey passed away on May 21, 1940. Mr. Burkey when a young man was converted at the Pleasant View Church. Later he became a member of the Missionary Church Ass'n. He found great
comfort and consolation in living for Christ.

Left to mourn his passing is an adopted son, Jay Burkey and his wife, the following nieces and nephews, Will Burkey of Broken Bow, Ben Burkey, Mrs. Joe Rediger,
Moses Burkey of Milford, Mrs. Henry Duling of Lincoln, a cousin. Rev. J. C. Birkey and many other relatives and friends.
