VARNA: Funeral services for Gustav Junker of Varna were held Friday afternoon, November 1, 1957, at 2:30 o'clock at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Varna with Rev. Victor Lehenbauer, vacancy pastor from Wenona, officiating.
Music was played by Mrs. Gary Bade and E. F.Goetsch as soloist sang "The Twenty-Third Psalm", "The Lord is My Shepherd", and "Be Still My Soul".
Serving as pallbearers were six grandsons: Ronald Junker, Robert Lenz, Arnold Junker, William Kemnitz, Vernon Chamberlain, and Charles Boston.
Interment was made in the family lot in St. Paul's Cemetery at Varna, IL.
Gustav Fredrich Wilhelm Junker was born at Gardin
Regenwalde, Germany, September 28, 1875. He was married to Hedwig Ollman at Witznitz, Germany, on January 19, 1900. This union was blessed with ten children.
Mr. and Mrs. Junker came to this country from Germany in 1902 and settled on a farm in Hopewell township, later moving to the John Myers farm northwest of Varna where they resided for 25 years. It was in 1943 when they left the farm and moved to Varna. Mr. Junker was employed at the Farmers Co-op. For the past 12 years, Mr. Junker had been making his home with his children.
It was about a year ago that Mr. Junker's health began to fail. In May of this year he submitted to surgery from which he only partially recovered. His illness gradually became more severe until on Tuesday evening, October 29, at
11:15 he passed away at the home of his daughter, Elfrieda (Mrs. Fred Kemnitz), at the age of 82 years, 1 month, and 1 day.
He leaves to mourn his passing eight children: Mrs. Harry (Gertrude) Chamberlain, Kissimmee, FL, Mrs. Fred (Elfrieda) Kemnitz, Mrs. Walter (Clara) Junker, Mrs. Ernest (Margaret) Lenz, Mrs. Gerhard (Agnes) Lenz, Ernest Junker, all of Varna; Harold Junker, Rome, NY; and Gerhardt Junker, Wenona, IL.
He leaves 31 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren. One sister, Ida Malikowski, some nieces and nephews in Germany, some nieces in Toluca, IL, also survive.
Mr. Junker was preceded in death by his wife on July 9, 1945; a daughter, Lydia, on December 4, 1932, and a child in infancy.
