Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 7, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church, Herington, with Pastor Victor Force officiating.
Burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel, Friday, August 6, 2004, from 2pm until 8pm; where the family will receive friends from 7pm until 8pm Friday.
Mrs. Ayres was a homemaker, worked as a clerk for over 20 years at Boellings Pharmacy and later worked in the Herington Elementary School as a lunch room helper. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1931, (she was the oldest member in years and age), and served as a Deacon, Elder, and the United Presbyterian Women. She was a member of the Dix-Day V.F.W. Auxiliary of Herington.
She married Franklin H. Ayres on November 27, 1921 in Council Grove; he preceded in death on June 24, 1958. Also, preceded in death by a daughter Jean Goodman on May 1, 1977; a son Oscar Ayres on May 2, 1995; and a granddaughter Marcie (Ihde) Plaice on September 1, 1999. Five (5) brothers (Elmer Langhofer, Edgar Langhofer, Emmit Langhofer, Walter Langhofer, Chester Langhofer) and a sister (Melinda Bernhardt).
Survived by two (2) daughters: Muriel Ihde of Herington, and Jessie Longhofer of Granbury, Texas; a brother Alden Langhofer of Wichita; a sister Selena Lay of Newton; twelve (12) grandchildren; thirty (30) great grandchildren; and seventeen (17) great-great grandchildren.
Memorials are requested to the Dickinson County Hospice, the Lutheran Home, or the First Presbyterian Church and can be sent in care of the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS, 67449-3038.
