Julius Henry Ledwig Sr.
U.S. Veteran Julius Henry Ledwig, Sr., 74, of Bay City passed away October 18, 2009. He was born Dec. 17, 1934 in Myersville, TX to the late Frank & Julia Hahn Ledwig. He was a longtime farmer and rancher and served as a board member for a number of organizations in Matagorda County.
Four of his brothers Mike Ledwig, Alois Ledwig, Leo Ledwig & Stanley Ledwig all preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 46 years: Vlasta Ledwig of Bay City; daughter: Sandy Knight & husband Hal of Richmond; 2 sons: Scott Ledwig & wife Cheryl of El Maton and Jay Ledwig & wife Carol of Blessing; 3 sisters: Margaret Meador & Bernice Davis both of Bay City and Elizabeth Mariner of Van Vleck; 4 brothers: Ignatz Joe Ledwig & Milton Ledwig both of Bay City, Joe Ledwig of Delcambre, LA and Henry Ledwig of Palacios; 7 grandchildren: Luke, Meaghan, Mason & Natalie Ledwig, Karmen Cooley, Kristi Knight and Kassie Knight and two great grandchildren.
A rosary will be held 7:00 PM Tuesday October 20, 2009 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Mass will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Joe Varana officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Ignatz "Joe" Ledwig Jr., Larry Ledwig, Kenny Ledwig, Otha Meador Jr., Donnie McCabe, and Pat Brown. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Earl Halfen, Ross Cole, Michael Ledwig, Dewayne Ledwig, Bill Phillips, Carl King, James Pawlosky, John Dickerson, Jimmy Henkes, and Charles Hahn.
