Suggested edit: Obituary of Mrs. Julius Gepner
The end came to a noble life when Mrs. Mary Ann Gepner passed to her eternal home
on Tuesday night December 29th, 1925 and another life is a blessed memory. For the past
number of years Mrs. Gepner had been in very poor health at times suffering greatly and
all that loving hands could do for her was done. She knew for some time the seriousness
of her condition and was prepared to go.
Mary Ann Affolter daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Affolter was born in Berne
Switzerland in January 8th 1856, and passed away at her home in Clifton, Kansas
December 29th, 1925. On January 24th 1856, she was baptized into the German Lutheran
Church and at all times held fast to her faith in her Saviour. On October 26th 1875 she
was married to Julius Gepner and to this union nine children were born. One son dying in
infancy, another son Fred and two daughters, Mrs. Emma Savener and Mrs. Lena
Cummins preceded her in death. Those who remain to mourn her departure are her
husband, Theodore and William Gepner of Clay Center, Ed Gepner of Clifton, J. Gepner
of Geary, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Louise Buckles of this city, twenty six grandchildren,
seven great-grandchildren, an aged father, three sisters and three brothers and a multitude
of friends. On October 26th of this year Mr. and Mrs. Gepner celebrated their golden
wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Gepner was a woman of many splendid traits of character and best of all she was a
mother, loving and gentle and kind. To her family she gave a mother’s love and was their
guiding star, never tiring of the duties she had to perform. The going out of a mother
from the home always brings great sorrow to the family and no one can ever take her
place there. Her entire life was one of helping and giving to others and she won the love
and respect of all who knew her. This mother to whom we are paying a last tribute,
accepted life bravely and met death calmly and peacefully and now she sleeps in peace
thus we leave her and in memory keep her
The funeral was held Friday January 1st, 1926 at the Presbyterian church, Rev. C.A. Budd
conducting the services and internment was made at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
