When the Provincial term of office of Mother M. Agnes Feldhaus was nearing its end, Mother Medulpha was chosen to succeed her. Mother Medulpha held the position of Eastern Provincial until her election as Commissary General for the School Sisters of Notre Dame in North America in 1935. This led to the election of Mother Mary Philemon Doyle as Provincial for the East.
Mother Medulpha's predecessor as Commissary General was Mother M. Kostka Schilling. In turn, she was succeeded by Mother Mary Fidelis Krieter.
