Wilhelmina was born in Elberfeld, Prussia, the only daughter and middle child of Jacob and Augusta Grindt Wolters. Family legend holds that the family immigrated through the port of Philadelphia in about 1833, then came to New Orleans in May, 1835 and transferred on to Brazoria, Texas. Minna's mother is believed to have died in July, 1835 in Frelsburg, Colorado, Texas. Her gravesite is not known.
Minna married George Herder on April 27, 1841 in Frelsburg. Twelve children were born to them. A daughter Friedericke Louise dying at the age of 8 in March of 1850 in Colorado County (gravesite unknown), and a son Carl Wilhelm dying at the age of 20 on Sep 14, 1874 in Fayette County.
Minna and husband, George, are both Citizens of the Republic of Texas.
