Funeral services were held at Drakes Creek last Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. (January 3) for Mrs. Miranda Elizabeth Rogers, 76, of Japton who passed away at the Madison County Memorial hospital, where she had been a patient for about six weeks. Mrs. Rogers had been in ill health for some time.

The deceased was born February 6, 1876, the daughter of William E. Spurlock and Winnie Ledbetter Spurlock and had spent her entire life in the county.

She had been a member of the Church of Christ for 18 years. Mrs. Rogers was the eldest daughter of Aunt Winnie Spurlock, one of the oldest residents of Madison county who now resides at Japton.

Besides her mother, Mrs. Rogers is survived by six sons, William A. of Reed Springs, Mo., Arnold and Everett of La Habra, Calif., Alvin of Fullerton, Edd and Bruce of Japton; four daughters, Mary Ash of Modesto, Calif., Fannie Combs of Combs, Effie Jones, of Tulare, Calif., and Elsie Jackson, Japton, and Georgia Glenn (granddaughter whom she had reared from a baby) of Elm Springs; four sisters, Mary Harriman, Nettie Appleton and Etta Harriman all of Japton and Nancy Corbett of Wesley; four brothers, John and Ether Spurlock of Japton, Lewis Spurlock of Fullerton, Calif., and Dave Spurlock of Fayetteville.

Bro. Raymond Bailey, pastor of the Huntsville Church of Christ conducted the services. Burial was in the Drakes Creek cemetery under the direction of the Brashears Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Searles Johnson, Haskell Harriman, Charley Samples, Claudie Appleton, Monroe Rogers and Leon Harriman.
