Nacke, Mary Elizabeth

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Nacke passed away Sunday morning (March 14, 1959) in Spokane, at 6:45 AM after an illness of about 3 months which was the aftermath of a stroke she suffered early in January. She has been in the Riverside Nursing Home almost 5 weeks.

She was cared for early in her illness at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert Stone, with whom she made her home. Miss Paula Stone, daughter of the Robert Stones, was home from St Joseph’s College of Nursing in Portland, when her grandmother was stricken, so she was on duty the first two weeks and she also instructed her mother in the care of a person in Mrs. Nacke’s condition. But as the week wore on Mrs. Nacke’s condition grew worse until most of the time she did not recognize the family.

Miss Carol Bond who learned her practical nursing profession at the home, helped Mrs Stone care for the ill lady.

Mrs. Nacke was born June 17, 1866 (she would have been 93 this summer) at Teupolis, IL, where she grew to young womanhood. She was married there to Bernard Nacke. After a few years the family moved to Cottonwood, ID where they made their home until age and illness made it impractical.

In 1935 Mr. Nacke was ill and required continual care so the couple came to Harrington to reside with Mr. & Mrs. Robert Stone (Cecilia Nacke). Mr. Nacke died in July, 1936 and is buried in Hillcrest cemetery, as is also a daughter, Mrs. Mary Harms, who was laid to rest here in 1946.

Pallbearers were Lawrence Timm, Chester Timm, Richard Stone, Ron Gooley, Roger Scott and Edward Gooley. Relatives who attended the services were Mr. & Mrs. William Stubbs (Katherine Nacke) of Portland; Mr. & Mrs. Fred Nacke of Daly City, CA; Mr. & Mrs. Millard A Lord and family, Arlington, WA (a grandson); Mr. & Mrs. Floyd Irwin of Pendleton, OR (a granddaughter). Among out-of-town friends were Mrs. Ed Huber, Spokane; Mr. & Mrs. Earl Clark, Spokane; Mrs. Elmer Cobb, Spokane; Mrs. Anna Laughlin and Joe Laughlin, Spokane. Surviving Mrs .Nacke are her children, Cecilia Stone, Mrs. Stubbs and Fred Nacke; 7 grandchildren and a brother in Illinois.
