Darrell William Anderson 1920 ~ 2004
OGDEN - Darrell W. Anderson, 84, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2004. He was born April 29, 1920 in Ogden, Utah the son of Guy B. Anderson and Edith Rowse Anderson. In 1941 he married Edna M. Miller of Ogden. They had one son, Stephen D. Anderson of Midland, Michigan. In 1995, Darrell married Barbara B. Greiner of Ogden. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1938. He attended the University of California at Los Angeles; the University of Utah, as a civilian representative for the Air Force at the University of Ohio; and the Air Force Industrial College. He served in the U.S. Navy Air Wing 14-2. Upon discharge from the Navy, he returned to Ogden and worked at Hill Air Force Base where he was employed for 31 years, retiring as Civilian Deputy of Manpower and Organization Office in 1973. Upon retirement he established and managed a liability and casualty insurance agency in Ogden for 10 years. Darrell was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church of Ogden where he served on numerous committees and as choir director for over 25 years. He was also a volunteer at St. Benedict's Hospital, Ogden Regional Medical Center and the Ogden Police Department. He joined the Masonic Order in 1946 and was a life member of Weber Lodge No. 6 of Ogden and served as their organist. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies. He was a member of El Kalah Shrine where he served as Chaplain Emeritus for more than 10 years and musical director of El Kalah Shrine Oriental Band for more than 35 years. This organization was recognized with several outstanding awards in national competitions involving Shrine Units from across the United States. He was also a member of the Royal Order of Scotland, Royal Scots of Utah, Royal Order of Jesters Court No. 49, Ogden Scottish Rite Club, Ogden Shrine Club, and Miriam Chapter No. 14 Order of Eastern Star. In January 1991, he received the Hiram Award on behalf of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Utah for his distinguished service to his church, community and Masonic organizations. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Anderson; son, Stephen (Noreen) Anderson and two grandsons, Todd and Joel; sister, Gladys Vandercook; nephews, Carl Vandercook, Roger Anderson and David Young; stepsons, Jon (Telitha) Greiner and their three children, Bill (Barbara) Greiner and their three children and two grandchildren, Paul (Tracy) Greiner and their two children; and Jim (Nancy) Greiner and their two children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Anderson, his parents, and his brother, Moyle Anderson. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 14 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Ogden, 2604 Jefferson Avenue. The services will be jointly conducted by Reverend Alane Currier Griggs, David W. Barron, PGM and officers of Weber Lodge No. 6. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 8:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Cremation under the direction of Lindquist's Crematory. The family suggests donations in lieu of flowers be made to the El Kalah Transportation Fund for the Shriner's Hospital c/o El Kalah Shrine Temple, 650 East So.
