Mary Ruth Nead, 78, of Kansas City, Kan., passed away Sunday, November 8, 2009, at Medicalodge Post Acute Care Center. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kan. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Mary was born Aug. 22, 1931, to Edward Atkins, Sr. and Marie (Butherus) Atkins. She had lived in the Kansas City Area most of her life, graduating from Washington High School in 1949. She loved reading, and organized and ran the library at Plaza Towers, where she lived. Mary also enjoyed solving picture and crossword puzzles. She supported many organizations, especially Feed the Children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Edward Atkins, Jr., and her husband, Fredrick Donald Nead. Survivors include two sons, Donald Nead and wife Felicia, and William Nead and wife Dena; six grandchildren, Shane, Eric, Bo, Aaron, Rayme and Kayla; one brother, Mike Atkins and wife Jackie; and one sister, Sandra Mosley and husband Jim.
