Martha Elizabeth Yerby was born in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama to Amon and Rachel Yerby. The family was still living in Tuscaloosa County at the time of the 1840 Federal Census, but by 1850 had moved to Fayette County.
Martha married Andrew Jackson Jones near the beginning of 1851 in Fayette, Alabama. She was still living with her parents at the time of the 1850 Census (5 Dec 1850), and Leander, her first child, was born 15 Nov 1851. Their marriage likely took place Dec 1850 – Feb 1851.
After the Civil War, the family only remained in Fayette County for a couple of years. John Lee was born there on 31 Aug 1866. In 1867, Martha and Andrew moved the family to Freestone County, Texas. Andrew donated land for a church and Hopewell Cemetery in early 1873; later that year their last child, Mary Callie, was born in Freestone County.
According to Callie's obituary, the Joneses moved to Wise County, Texas in 1874. Their son Frank was married in Wise County 13 Jan 1876. They remained in Wise County for the rest of their lives and are buried next to each other in Jonestown Cemetery.
