Peter H. Franken, 64, Wausau, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Hospice House under the care of his family and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Service. Peter was born June 12, 1945, to Paul and Audrey (Worth) Franken, in Milwaukee. He was raised in the De Pere area and graduated from East De Pere High School in 1963.

Peter's career stretched many years as an electrician in the Wausau area. He worked hard to gain a reputation as one of the best electrical contractors. His company, Newton Electric Corp. was considered Wausau's "Preferred Electrical Contractor" and Peter took pride in the quality of the work and the service they provided.

Even though his work occupied much of his time, he still managed to find the time to explore his many passions and interests. As a young man he was an avid hunter and fisherman along with honing his skills as an award-winning power lifter.

He loved exploring new things and had a curiosity and inquisitive personality that inspired him to read with awe and determination. His passion for knowing helped him to become a wine connoisseur, an amateur photographer and astronomer to name a few.

Star gazing seemed to fascinate him the most and on any clear night he would look to the stars and the heavens in silent wonderment.

Peter is now peaceful and at rest. His love of knowledge fully satisfied and his curiosity and awe of the stars and heavens fulfilled. His time on this earth was short, but in his short life he managed to have a successful career, loving family and a journey filled with great scenery and fascinating destinations. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Franken; four sons, Sean (fiancee, Nicole Klopatek) Osborn, Wausau; Nate (Becky) Osborn, Mattoon; Eric (Rochelle) Franken, Wausau; and Tony Franken, Wausau; one daughter, Shelly (Scott) Spulak, Schofield; his mother, Audrey Franken, Green Bay; two brothers, Mike (Mary Ann Fitzharris) Franken, Louisville, Ky.; and Chris (Linda) Franken, Elmhurst, Ill.; and one sister, Lynda (Mark) Weingart, Waterford. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Paul Franken Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 6205 Alderson St., Weston. Rev. Raymond Connor will officiate. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday and again from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday, all at the church. Brainard Funeral Home, Wausau is assisting the family with the arrangements.
