Lifelong Alaska resident Frederick Theodore ''Fred'' Bismark Sr., 76, died of lung cancer Jan. 10, 2000, at Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage. A service was held at St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Tyonek. Burial was in Tyonek Cemetery.

Mr. Bismark was born April 6, 1923, in Anchorage and was a resident of Tyonek. He was a commercial fisherman. His family said, ''Fred was a leader for Tyonek and its people. He served as vice president and president of the tribal council. He represented the people in Tyonek, lobbying for issues that were of concern in Juneau. He helped uphold the subsistence rights that we enjoy today. Fred was an inspiration to his people.''

Mr. Bismark is survived by his wife, Tania Bismark; children, Fred Bismark Jr., Alice Bismark, Steve Bismark, Arlene Reiser, Sharon Bismark, Dorothy Bismark, Robert Bismark, Stanley Bismark, Eugene Bismark and Laura Bismark; and grandchildren, Lisa Bismark, Ernie Baker Jr., Lindsay Bismark, Sherri Bismark, Julie Ann Bismark, Derek Adams, Kayla Reiser, Eric Torrey, Melissa Torrey, Yvonne Webber, Kristen Webber, Tania Evon, Sonny Zaochney, Toni Bismark, Margaret Bell and Christine Bell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve Bismark and Doris Nickanorica, and daughter, Helen Baker. Local arrangements by Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary & Crematory.
