Roland Jerome Mewes,79,son of William and Leona Mewes of Minot, ND; died of cancer. He was born in Max, ND; received a Bachelor's Degree in math and education from Minot State University and master's degree in science from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He served in the USArmy from 1944 to 1946, serving at the Army Evacuation Hospital, and was a medic for 26 months in France, Germany, England, Scotland, and Belgium.
Roland taught math and music first in Plaza, ND and then at Great Falls High School from 1952 to 1965; and CM Russell High School from 1965 to 1985. In 1957 he married Mary Ellen Hiebert at Mountain Lake, MN. He was a member of National Education Assn and Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, 1 daughter; 3 sons; a brother, and 4 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
