Johann Jacob Zeiler was born in Frank, Russia. He was the son of Conrad Zeiler and Katharina Schmidt. Jacob married Katharina M. Schaub in 1907, and 12 known children were born to this marriage: Mary, Edward, Jacob, Fred, Roy, Rachel, Alma, Viola, William, Vernon, Samuel, and Donald.

Following his wife's death in 1939, Jacob remarried to Catharina Koch Thaut 16 Dec 1942 in Yakima, Washington; she died 4 Feb 1976 in California.
