Ed Meinecke first came to the United States with his brother Fred in 1848. The two brothers came to California by way of Wisconsin and purchased property in Calaveras County. In 1858 they returned to Hanover where they married, returning to Calaveras County with their brides before Christmas of 1858. Ed and his wife Marie lived in Vallecito for the rest of their lives. They raised 3 sons and 4 daughters there. Ed Meinecke is said to have had one of the best peach orchards in the region.
