1858 Mrs. Peter Tjossem 1941

Mrs. Peter Tjossem passed from this life at 6:35 o'clock Sunday morning, July 6th, following an extended illness of about four months. She was 82 years, 10 months and 10 days of age, so that it can truthfully be said of her, she lived a long, quiet and industrious life. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 from the home and at 2:00 from the Friends Meeting House in Mapleside. Rev. A.A. Howe, of Sutherland, officiated at the services. Burial was made in the Friends Cemetery.

She was born in Norway October 20, 1858, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Berthusen. She came to America with her parents when she was only five years of age. They made their first home in Marshall County, Iowa.

Deceased was united in marriage with Peter Tjossem at Dillen, Iowa, the 26th of March, 1883. They started their home life thee where their first two children were born. They are Mrs. Tina Gerner of Gaza, and Prof. Lester Tjossem of Los Angeles, California.

On March 12, 1887, the family moved to O'Brien County and settled on a farm about five miles northeast of Paullina where they have since lived. Here another son, Howell, was born, and he is now farming the home place.

Besides her husband and children, she leaves to mourn her death four brothers and sisters. They re H.G. Berthusen of Linton, Washington; T.A. Berthusen of Gilman, Iowa; P.O. of Linton, Washington; Albert of Lancaster, Washington; and the sister Anna Berthusen of Bellingham, Washington.

Her brother Tobias died in infancy before her parents left Norway. Others who preceded her in death are Norman, her sister Charlotte, John, and her oldest brother Albert who died March 16, 1930 at Gilman, Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs. Tjossem moved into their little cottage on the farm in 1930 and have lived there since. She was like man other farm home mother in that she loved her home and did not care to leave it. She lived a quiet life, looking well after the work of her home and faithfully serving her husband and children.

The Times joins in extending sympathy to the bereaved husband and family in their hour of sorrow.
