John Wehrwein, known as "Smiley" because he always had a smile on his face, passed away at the age of 89,December 7, 2009 at the Golden Living Center.
John was born on November 13, 1920 in Cleveland, a son of the late Carl and Emelia (Fink) Wehrwein.
On August 7, 1943 he was united in marriage to Marian Engel at the Immanuel Congregational Parsonage. She preceded him in death on April 29, 2003.
John served his country with the Army during World War II. He was a radar crewman and participated in the European Theater of War.
John was a lovable man who always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He cherished his grandchildren and the joy of his life, his great-grandson and his great-great-grandchildren. He always enjoyed playing cards and was an active dartball player. As a sports fan he enjoyed the Packers, Brewers and Badgers.
John was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the VFW Post 9156.
John is survived by his daughter, Nancy Ann Wehrwein of Sheboygan; his two grandchildren, Dawn Ann Justus (fiancé, Shawn Miller) and Troy Christopher (Rhonda) Justus, both of Sheboygan; his great-grandson, Christopher John Justus (fiancée, Cindall Kaulity) of Plymouth and his two great-great-grandsons, Dominic and Trenton Justus.He was preceded in death by brothers, sisters, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
A funeral service for John held December 11 at the Novak-Ramm-Ziegler Funeral Home with Rev. Christian Gugel, pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church officiating. Entombment will be in Gardens of Peace Mausoleum with military rites accorded by VFW Post 9156.
