Whereas, it having pleased Almighty God in his infinite wisdom, Barbara Elizabeth Nussbaumer, who completed the Lord's earthly work assigned to her, departed this world on March 1, 2007, to pass through the portals of eternity and join him in eternal peace and love.

Barbara, the daughter of James Harland Gillette and Elizabeth Isabella Wight, was born on Dec. 8, 1928, in Oneonta, N.Y. She married Donald Adrian Nussbaumer on Dec. 16, 1950. They resided in Schenectady N.Y.; Oak Ridge, Tenn.; Kensington Md.; and Gaithersburg, Md., before retiring to Clinton, Tenn., in 1989.

She was a 1951 graduate of Union University's School of Nursing at Albany Medical College and was a registered nurse. Barbara was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge. When a person leaves this world, it can create an incredible void for those loved ones left behind. While we grieve the loss of Barbara, we take comfort knowing that she led an incredibly rich life. We remember her as a woman of strong character, positive attitude, engaging sense of humor and a wife and mother who was always there for her family. We miss you deeply; you are always in our thoughts and we know that one day, through the grace of God, that we shall meet again in his temple, that house not built with human hands, eternal in the heavens.

In addition to her husband of 56 years, Barbara left behind her five children, Donna Cordell (Donald), Robert Nussbaumer (Susanne), Catherine VandeStar (Bram), Cynthia Byers (Lonnie) and James Nussbaumer (Pamela); as well as 13 grandchildren: Matthew, Daniel, Sarah, Shanon, Bryce, Tamara, Steven, David, Dan'iel, Joshua, Nathaniel, Benjamin and Jacob; and five great-grandchildren: Quentin, Keena, Kayla, Kennedy and Tristan.

Funeral services were Sunday, March 4, 2007, at 8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Stella Roberts and the Rev. Troy Forrester officiating. Graveside services were to be Monday at 10 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family asks that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church Mission Program, 1350 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

The family received friends on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary.
