Karen Lee Abbey was born Feb. 20, 1959, in Elmhurst, Ill., the daughter of Leonard D. and Barbara (Werhane) Egly. She departed this life on Nov. 30, 2009, in Springfield, Mo., at the age of 50 years. Karen was united in marriage to Paul "Cotton" Abbey in 1977 and to this union, two children were born, Jessica and Charles. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Major and Jo Egly and Lester Werhane; and father, Leonard Egly. Survivors include her children, Jessica Butler and husband, Jeremy, of Lawrence, Kan., and Charles Abbey and wife, Erica, of Ramstein, Germany; mother, Barbara Egly of Mountain View, Mo.; maternal grandmother, Kathryne Werhane of Mountain View; one granddaughter, Miranda Butler; two brothers, Karl Egly and wife, Vickie, of Springfield, Mo., and Tim Egly and wife, Kathy, of Abdingdon, Va.; one sister, Kathy Kallas and husband, Mike, of Suring, Wisc.; nieces and nephews, Amie, John, Lucas, and Lauren; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Karen was a very caring and generous person. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and gardening. She loved her granddaughter and spending time with family. She will be sadly missed. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, in Yarber Mortuary with Pastor Kathy Osiel officiating. Interment was in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mountain View under the direction of Yarber Mortuary, Mountain View.
