Alice Marie Motley, 85, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Harmon Memorial Hospital in Hollis.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at the First Baptist Church in Hollis with Pastor Jim Westmoreland and Tim Tutten officiating. Interment followed at the Fairmount Cemetery in Hollis.
Alice Marie Bassel was born Jan. 22, 1924, to William Graves and Ruth Bassel in McQueen. She had attended schools in Lahoma and Gould, graduating in 1942 from Gould High School.
She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Arlis Motley, on Sept.11, 1942, at the Methodist Parsonage in Hollis. They celebrated their 67th anniversary this year. To this marriage were born two fine daughters, Arline and Audrey, and two ornery boys, James and Harold.
Mrs. Motley was a lifelong resident of Harmon County. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Hollis. She loved working with evangelists, missionaries, medical teams, local churches, and the prison ministry. They trained people to be soul winners and brought people to saving faith in Jesus Christ. Their work carried them to numerous states and countries, including Belize, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Ecuador, and Mexico. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include: her husband, Arlis Motley of Hollis; two daughters, Arline Constance of Hollis and Audrey Eggers and her husband Delles of Morrison; one son, James Motley and his wife Jana of Hollis; one daughter-in-law, Rosemarie Motley of Norman; one sister, Alma Ruth Turner and her husband Clyde of Amarillo, TX; four grandsons, Larry Rath and his wife Kathryn of Fort Smith, AR, Tim Eggers of Shenandoah, IA, Jared Motley and his wife Rebekah of Rome, Italy, and Jesse Motley and his wife Emily of Lewisville, TX; five granddaughters, Debbie Sparks and her husband Wayne of Oklahoma City, Roxanne Joslin and her husband Nicholas of Yelm, WA, Amy Stewart and her husband Josh of Bullard, TX, Julie Jarnagin and her husband Kevin of Norman, and Joy Luce and her husband Darrion of Hollis; and 17 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W.G. and Ruth Bassel; two brothers, Russell and Otis Bassel; one son, Harold Motley; and one granddaughter, Carrie Ruth Eggers.
