Philip served as a Captain, 802nd Medical Air Evacuation Squadron, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Cook County, Illinois prior to the war.

He was promoted to the rank of Captain on January 31, 1944.

Philip died in the "Line Of Duty" while a passenger on C-47 #41-18603, which took off from Florence Airport en route to Rome, and crashed near Montieri, Italy due to extreme weather during the war.

There were 22 passengers and 4 crew members on this flight. 20 passengers and 3 crew member perished.

C-47 #41-18603 was part of the 35th Troop Carrier Squadron, 64th Troop Carrier Group.

Philip was originally interred in Italy and was later repatriated here on January 20, 1950.

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldier's were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
