Helen Virginia Mikel Thompson, celebrated her new birthday on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, when she went to be with her Heavenly Father, the Lord Jesus Christ.
She is celebrating with her husband, the late Delma Douglas Thompson, who passed away May 4, 1975; and her late parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Mikel, of Cleveland, Tenn. She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Juanita Mikel Geren and Dorothy Mikel Ledford, both of Cleveland.
Survivors include her daughters, Merriam Calhoun and Beverly Standifer, of Knoxville; three grandchildren, English Standifer, Jennifer Gilmour and Doug Calhoun; five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Grant and Patrick Calhoun and Caleb and Noah Standifer; one sister, Wilma McConnell, of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Ridgedale Room at Ridgedale Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Owens officiating.
Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. today at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cross Memorial at Ridgedale Baptist Church, 1831 Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
