Longtime Ridgecrest, CA resident Pete Chacon Martinez, Jr. passed away Thursday, 31 Dec 2009.
Military rites were performed by the VFW and the US Navy Honor Guard. His ashes were scattered in the Rose Garden at Desert Memorial Park.
Pete was born 1 Oct 1938 in Palm Springs, CA. He served in the National Guard from 1957 to 1959 and in the US Navy from 1959 through 1978. He was employed as a senior electrician at AECOM, China Lake, CA.
His most precious joy and his best friend was his grandson, his boy Steven Michael Shears. He loved traveling in "their RV" with Michael as his co-pilot.
Pete was a member of the VFW Ship 4084, the Elks Lodge, the American Legion and the Moose Lodge.
He had earned his AA degree.
Pete is survived by his wife Joyce Ann Martinez; daughters Linda B. Breitengross and husband Rick; Grace D. Blanton and husband Don; Genevieve Martinez Kaskabas and husband Robbie, first wiffe Trudy A. Martinez, mother of the three girls; step-daughter Kim D. Meredith and husband, Ron; step-sonSteve V. Shears; step-son Eddie Jone; step-daughter Terri Rogers; six brothers and four sisters; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
