Enlisted on September 8, 1862 at Iredell County, North Carolina as a Private in the 18th North Carolina Infantry, Company G at the age of 22. Missing on July 14, 1863 at Falling Waters, Maryland. Returned to duty February 28, 1864. POW on May 12, 1864 at Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia. Confined on May 14, 1864 at Point Lookout, Maryland. Transferred on August 3, 1864 to Elmira, New York. Died of variola as a POW.
