She was born March 20, 1922, in Kalida to Bernard and Anna Hovest Vorst, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 27, 1941, she married Alfred J. Meyer, who died Nov. 16, 2002.
Mrs. Meyer retired after teaching English at Ottawa-Glandorf for 25 years. She also instructed the GED classes for many years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Leipsic, and its Altar Rosary Society. She was a graduate of The Ohio State University and received her master's degree from Bowling Green State University. She was a member on the executive board for Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She was a member and on the board of directors of the Ohio Education Association, and a member and leader of the Ottawa-Glandorf Education Association for many years. She was on the advisory board at Bowling Green State University and a volunteer 4-H adviser for more than 20 years. She had a strong dedication to teaching and promoting professionalism in the community through education.
Survivors include two sons, Leon (Helen) Meyer, of Glandorf, and Len (Sharon) Meyer, of Miller City; three daughters, Phyllis (Larry) Unger, of West Chester, Janice (Chuck Herhold) Meyer, of Viera, Fla., and Lois Fecteau, of Peoria, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Elmer Vorst, of Columbus Grove, Carl (Ruth) Vorst, of Kalida, and Thomas (Fran) Vorst, of Cloverdale; a sister, Elaine Schroeder, of Columbus Grove; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Vorst, of Kalida.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Fecteau; and a brother, Harold Vorst.
A Memorial Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Leipsic. The Rev. George Wenzinger will officiate.
