Gerald Seim Loses Fight For Life -

Gerald Seim, ten-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Reynold E. Seim of near Worms died Thursday morning of last week in the Children's Hospital in Omaha, where he had been taken for the treatment for severe burns suffered last October 23 at his home.

Gerald was born June 18, 1942 and was in the fifth grade in the Lutheran parochial school at Worms. Surviving are his parents; two brothers, William Edward and Robert Lamoine; two sisters, Judith Ann and Marilyn Kay; his grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. H. Wm. Meyer of Palmer and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Seim of Chapman.

October 23, the day of the accident, was a school holiday, and the Seim children were home. It is thought that Gerald had tried to get some paint off his hands with gasoline, had gotten gas on his clothes, and in some manner had come in contact with fire. He ran to the house, his clothes all aflame. His mother extinguished the fire by wrapping him in a blanket, but not before more than half the skin of his body had been destroyed.

For some weeks after the accident there was hopes that he might recover. About two weeks ago word was received that Gerald had taken pneumonia, a very serious complication in his weakened condition.

Soon after his accident, neighbors and friends joined in contributing a large sum of money to help pay Gerald's hospital and medical bills.

Perhaps the largest attendance ever to gather for a funeral at Worms was present Monday to pay final tribute to Gerald Seim. The church which seats 350 was filled and 200 more crowded into the school basement nearby where they head the services over a loud speaker.
